Connect to Backup Wifi
Backup Wi-Fi
Guest Wi-Fi is a special network just for your guests. Guests will be able to get online and discover the devices that you choose to make available from your main Wi-Fi network.
Set up Backup Wi-Fi
When you update the Google Wifi app to the version that features Guest Wi-Fi (version 7647.72.0 and up), you may see a notification card. To set it up, tap Get Started and proceed with the in-app instructions (see below).
If you dismiss the card or don’t see it, you can set up Guest Wi-Fi through the settings menu or the Wi-Fi access tab. To do this, tap the gear icon in the upper-right corner. Under “Network,” tap Guest network and follow the instructions in the app.
Note: Guest Wi-Fi cannot be set up if your Wifi point(s) is in bridge mode.
1. Create a Guest Wi-Fi name and password
The app will suggest a network name for you (your main Wi-Fi network with “-Guest” added to the end). But you can change this if you want. Just make sure that the name and password are different from your main Wi-Fi network.
2. Choose devices to make them available for guests
Guest Wi-Fi will create a new network that’s separate from your main Wi-Fi. Because of this, you may want to make some devices that are connected to your main Wi-Fi network available to guests, too. This lets them make use of all the cool gadgets in your home like playing music through your speakers or streaming movies to your TV.
- Check the box next to the devices you would like to make available. Can’t find your device?
- When you’re done, tap Create to finish setup.
“Suggested devices” are devices that are commonly shared among several people, like a Chromecast, smart TV, wireless speaker, and printer. “Other devices” are personal devices like phones, tablets, and computers.
